What is SNAP?
The SNAP Program SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, is the largest federally funded nutrition assistance program in the country. It is eligibility based and is run by the states. SNAP is based off the poverty line income levels similar to other government social assistance programs. The average monthly SNAP benefit in North Carolina is now $121.85 for an individual.
Many students received $160.00, so we used that number for the purpose of this challenge.

- Breads, cereals, snacks
- Fruits and vegetables
- meats, fish, and poultry
- dairy products
- Seeds plants that can produce food for the household
SNAP benefits do not cover:
- Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco
- Any nonfood item, such as: pet food, soaps, paper products
- Household supplies
- Hot foods
- Vitamins and medicines.
